Identifying Transshipment Hubs in a Global Container Shipping Network: An Approach Based on Reinforced Structural Holes

چکیده
Transshipment hubs are important components of the global container shipping network. Nowadays, hybrid ports emerging, handling both gateway and transshipment traffic depending on their significant maritime connectivity. Effectively identifying hubs, including traditional with high incidences sufficient capabilities, is crucial to gain a good understanding networks. The method reinforced structural holes (RSHs) has been introduced from sociology detect at level, as it can fully consider existence separated cohesive port communities. results show that RSH-based approach feasible identify those playing role bridges across different communities worldwide, which demonstrated perspective higher ranked RSH values generally have better connections various Several policy implications further elaborated for relevant decision makers, such liner companies operators.

Reinforced structural holes
Holes in social structure are variably reinforced by the social organization around the hole. The more reinforced the hole, the greater the difficulty in bridging it, but the more likely a successful bridge will carry information novel, and so potentially valuable, to people on the other side. To study how reinforcement varies with access to structural holes, and the achievement associated with...
متن کاملThe container shipping network design problem with empty container repositioning
This paper addresses the design of container liner shipping service networks by explicitly taking into account empty container repositioning. Two key and interrelated issues, those of deploying ships and containers are usually treated separately by most existing studies on shipping network design. In this paper, both issues are considered simultaneously. The problem is formulated as a two-stage...
متن کاملA study of the temporal robustness of the growing global container-shipping network
Whether they thrive as they grow must be determined for all constantly expanding networks. However, few studies have focused on this important network feature or the development of quantitative analytical methods. Given the formation and growth of the global container-shipping network, we proposed the concept of network temporal robustness and quantitative method. As an example, we collected co...
متن کاملProcess Analysis in Container Shipping Network Structure Form Change
Being aimed at the influence of ship-size and cargo-demand changes on container shipping networks, to reveal the evolution process of container shipping networks structure form, this paper respectively designed the operation models for two major container shipping networks structure forms: Multi-port-calling network and Hub-and-spoke network, to maximizing the investment efficiency. Based on th...
متن کاملTransshipment of containers at a container terminal: An overview
At container terminals, containers are transshipped from one mode of transportation to another. Within a terminal different types of material handling equipment are used to transship containers from ships to barges, trucks and trains and vice versa. Over the past decades, ships have strongly increased in size, up to 8000 TEU (Twenty feet equivalent unit container). In order to use these big shi...
